The Ford GT is America's only Le Mans-winning supercar, and taking this pinnacle of Ford Performance even further for 2021, Ford is revealing two new enhancements today – the first-ever Heritage Edition inspired by the original model's first endurance win at the 1966 Daytona 24 Hour Continental race, plus an all-new Studio Collection package offers even more exclusivity and design enhancements.
"For this Heritage Edition, the Ford Performance team went deeper into the Ford GT's race history and crafted a limited-edition model that stylistically honors the 55th anniversary of the Daytona 24 Hour endurance race that would eventually lead to our successes at Le Mans," said Mike Severson, Ford GT program manager. "Plus, for customers who want to highlight the carbon-fiber body and functional cooling ducts that help deliver Le Mans-winning performance, the Ford GT Studio Collection offers another new way GT fans can personalize their supercars."
The announcement of two new variants of the Ford GT were the highlights at the conclusion of 2020 Petersen Car Week, which started airing Wednesday on the museum's YouTube channel. A powerful typhoon that officials warned could bring record rains and gusts strong enough to flip cars slammed into southern Japan on Sunday, prompting authorities to urge millions to seek shelter.
Typhoon Haishen has weakened somewhat as it neared Japan's mainland, and shifted further west out to sea, but it remained a "large" and "extremely strong" storm.
After lashing a string of exposed, remote southern islands, it neared Japan's Kyushu region on Sunday evening, Autel IM608
. with authorities issuing evacuation advisories for more than seven million residents.
The weather agency urged people to exercise "most serious caution" for possible record rain, violent winds, high waves and surging tides.
"Record-level rainfall is expected. It may cause landslides or it could cause even large rivers to flood," said Yoshihisa Nakamoto, director of the forecast division at the Japan Meteorological Agency, during a televised briefing.
He added that surging tides could cause widespread flooding in low-lying areas, particularly around river mouths.
As the storm passed over several remote islands earlier Sunday, strong winds bent palm trees and sheets of rain lashed the area.
At an emergency cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe warned that flooding and landslides were a possibility.
"Maximum caution is needed as record rain, violent winds, high waves and high tides are possible," he said.
"I ask the Japanese people, including those who live in high-risk areas for flooding rivers or high tides, to stay informed and take action immediately to ensure their safety."
At 10 pm (1300 GMT), Haishen was located about 90 kilometres (56 miles) west of Makurazaki city, packing gusts up to 216 kmh (135 miles) -- strong enough to overturn vehicles and snap wooden power poles.
The storm was forecast to move north and travel off the western coast of Kyushu before reaching the Korean peninsula Monday morning, according to the weather agency.
It comes as North Korea reels from severe damage left by a recent typhoon.
Leader Kim Jong Un appeared in state media over the weekend to inspect the damage and ordered 12,000 elite members of his ruling party to help with recovery efforts.
- Evacuation orders, blackouts -
Japanese authorities issued evacuation orders for 1.8 million people in the affected area, with 5.6 million people issued lower-level advisories, national broadcaster NHK said.
Evacuation orders in Japan are not compulsory, though authorities strongly urge people to follow them.
Local officials asked individuals to avoid crowded shelters where possible, to reduce the risk of coronavirus infections, and some centres were forced to turn people away in order to have enough space to maintain social distancing.
In some places, residents were checking into nearby hotels to comply with evacuations advisories.
Hotel Polaris in Shibushi city, Kagoshima, said all 73 of its rooms were sold out for the weekend.
"This is a large building for our area. I think our guests have chosen to stay with us to feel safe," front desk employee Takayuki Shinmura told AFP, adding that it was unusual for all of the hotel's rooms to be occupied during typhoons.
Those who sought hotel rooms said the pandemic and discomfort of public shelters were weighing on them.
"I am worried about coronavirus infections. We're with small children too, so we did not want other people to see us as big trouble," an elderly man in Shibushi city told NHK after checking in at a local hotel with seven relatives.
The storm has forced the cancellation of nearly 550 flights and disrupted train services, NHK said.
Many factories also suspended operations, including three plants operated by Toyota.
More than 220,000 homes in the Kyushu region lost power Sunday evening as the storm swept just west of the region.
Haishen forced the Japanese coast guard to suspend its search for dozens of missing sailors from the Gulf Livestock 1 cargo ship that sank in an earlier storm.
Two survivors and the body of a third crew member were found before the search was suspended, and the coast guard said it will resume the operation when H.

Miguel Cabrera had two 3-run homers for the Detroit Tigers, but it wasn't enough in a 7-6 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday at Target Field.

Last time Miguel Cabrera drove in six runs in a game was 5/4/2013. He homered twice in that game, too, including a solo HR off Astros rookie reliever and current teammate Jose Cisnero.

Make that two three-run home runs for Miguel Cabrera tonight, his first multi-homer game since July 30. Six RBIs ties his career high, last reached on May 4, 2013. Tigers take 7-6 loss, but make it interesting late.

Final: Minnesota Twins 7, Detroit Tigers 6
The Tigers drop to 22-32 overall. Officially eliminated from the postseason.

Miguel Cabrera makes it a one-run game in the top of the ninth inning. A three-run blast, his second of the night. 7-6, Twins.

Miggy went BOOM (again).

Miguel Cabrera -- second three-run home run. This one off Sergio Romo -- 7-6.

Not for nothing: Nick Ramirez made one mistake in 2.1 innings (home run by Cave). He had two punch-outs. Useful.

Niko Goodrum had a word on the called strike with Laz Diaz, who had a similar call off the plate with Victor Reyes in the opening inning.

I have an apology to make. I made a mistake last week and I was wrong.
Yes, folks, I'm guilty. I drank theDetroit Lions Kool-Aid.
I not only drank it, I chugged it and asked for seconds.
I truly thought the Lions would beat the New Orleans Saints and I predicted a victory. Of course, it didn't work out that way and the Lions lost, 35-29.

FOR SUBSCRIBERS: Tracing the Detroit Lions' mistakes that brought them to brink of another witching hour
A link has been posted to your Facebook feed.
I wrote a column last week predicting the victory based on several factors. But mostly I predicted a win because I stopped listening to my head and started listening to my gut after watching the Lions' convincing victory at Arizona.
"Carlos, I can refer you to a good gastroenterologist and shrink," a concerned reader named "rsschafer" emailed me. "It appears you have problems with your gut and head. Don't let this continue, You may need: autel maxitpms. Berkowitz did and he began to think his neighbor's dog was speaking to him."
No, I'm not listening to my neighbor's dog. But I did listen to my gut and I deservedly got punched there as I watched the Lions give up 35 unanswered points.
So now I have to say I'm sorry. I'll put down my boot-shaped stein filled with Honolulu Blue liquid and I'll pick up a fork so I can eat some crow baked inside a humble pie.
For 5 minutes on Sunday I was looking pretty smart when the Lions jumped to a 14-0 lead thanks to a long opening drive and then a score set up by Darryl Roberts' interception.
As much as we all want to pretend we saw another blown double-digit lead coming, you know that at the moment you thought this might be a continuation of the previous week's win at Arizona. Another three-phase victory in the making.
[ Lions grades: Here's who earned F's vs. Saints after latest collapse ]
Then it felt like the Saints tilted the field and Alvin Kamara started running downhill for the rest of the game. He was a bowling ball constantly knocking down the 11 pins in front of him.
Then the pins finally started fighting back and held Kamara to 22 rushing yards in the second half.
And that's the problem with the 2020 Lions. They're not hopeless. They're the opposite. They're good enough to get keep your hopes up. They've scored first all in all four games and they've had double-digit leads in three of them.
Yet they're 1-3 because their players and coaches haven't been resilient enough to battle back from adversity during losses. They're 1-3 but they could easily be 3-1. And, let's be honest, we all know they're really 2-2 because D'Andre Swift shouldn't have dropped that pass against the Bears.
"It's very frustrating," left tackle Taylor Decker said after the game. "We start fast, we show that we can get up on teams and score points on teams and stop teams. But at the end of the day, it's a 60-minute game. So, I mean, yeah, it is frustrating. There's no other way to say it."
Actually, there are a lot of other ways to say it. The Free Press just can't print them.
[ NFL power rankings: At least the Detroit Lions are not as bad as these 7 teams ]
I understand the frustration. Trust me. Every week I get emails that start something like, "I've been a Lions fan since I was 9," or "I've been a fan for 60 years." I'm friends with Lions fans and I've met several of you at training camp, in online chats and at games. I know the struggle is real.
I want to leave you with some hope. I swear I'm off the Kool-Aid. But in the sober light a few days removed from the game, I see hope in the Lions' immediate future for two reasons: the schedule and the offense.
After the Lions return from this week's bye, they travel to Jacksonville, which is 1-3 and has given up 97 points in three straight losses that included juggernauts such as the Miami Dolphins and Cincinnati Bengals.
It gets better. In their next seven gam.
In spite of the pounding their industry has taken from the COVID-19 pandemic and the state's regulations aimed at curtailing it, a brewer, a chef and a barbecue grill-master are teaming up to feed their colleagues in need.
On Saturday, Batch Brewing Co. in Corktown will host a pay-what-you-can pig and vegetable roast for folks financially impacted by the latest round of state-mandated COVID-19 restrictions, which include a three-week ban on indoor dining and bar service.
"When you hear that the service industry is suffering, you need to realize that it's a lot
more than proprietors struggling to pay their rent," Batch Brewing Company proprietor Stephen Roginson said in a news release announcing the event. "It's servers, line cooks, dishwashers, security guards, and everyone that makes a restaurant go."
The Detroit BBQ Co. and Felony Provisions are teaming up with Batch to provide food and cook at the event, which runs from noon until 6 p.m. Saturday at 1400 Porter St.
"This second shut down, while only scheduled for three weeks, feels harder than the
first one," said Felony Provisions owner Rece Hogerheide in the release. "With no federal unemployment support, the layoffs that are happening as a result of this newest COVID spike are hitting us all hard."
Updates on how the coronavirus is affecting your community and the nation
Though designed with the hard-hit restaurant industry in mind, Roginson said anyone in need of a meal is welcome.

"We're gonna assume people want a free meal unless they tell us they'd like to make a contribution," Roginson said.
Guests will be required to wear masks and maintain physical distance from one another while waiting in line. Limited outdoor seating will be available, but food may also be taken to go.
The Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association projects that some 250,000 people could be laid off and an additional 6,000 restaurants in the state could close by spring without additional government stimulus if the indoor dining ban is prolonged.
NEW DELHI (AP) - A chilly breeze whirls through New Delhi in the mornings and the sun is partly obscured by toxic haze, a marker of another winter in the Indian capital. But along the city's borders, this year is visibly and viscerally different.
The perpetually busy arterial highways that connect most northern Indian towns to this city of 29 million people now pulse to the cries of "Inquilab Zindabad" - "Long live the revolution." Tens and thousands of farmers with distinctive, colorful turbans and long, flowing beards have descended upon the city's borders, choking highways in giant demonstrations against new farming laws that they say will open them to corporate exploitation.
For more than a week, they've marched toward the capital on their tractors and trucks like an army, pushing aside concrete police barricades while braving tear gas, batons and water cannons. Now, on the outsts of New Delhi, they are hunkered down with food and fuel supplies that can last weeks and threatening to besiege the capital if Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government doesn't meet their demands to abolish the laws.
"Modi wants to sell our lands to corporates," said one of them, Kaljeet Singh, 31, who traveled from Ludhiana city in Punjab, some 310 kilometers (190 miles) north of New Delhi. "He can't decide for millions of those who for generations have given their blood and sweat to the land they regard as more precious than their lives."
At night, the farmers sleep in trailers and under trucks, curling themselves in blankets to brave the winter chill. During the day, they sit huddled in groups in their vehicles, surrounded by mounds of rice, lentils and vegetables that are prepared into meals at hundreds of makeshift soup kitchens, in enormous pots stirred with wooden spoons the size of canoe paddles.
Anmol Singh, 33, who supports his family of six by farming, said the new laws were part of a larger plan to hand over the farmers' land to big corporations and make them landless.
"Modi wants the poor farmer to die of hunger so that he can fill the stomachs of his rich friends," he said. "We are here to fight his brutal decrees peacefully."
He paused, then reconsidered: "Actually, let him and his ministers take us on. We will give them a bloody nose."
Many of the protesting farmers hail from northern Punjab and Haryana, two of the largest agricultural states in India. An overwhelming majority of them are Sikhs. They fear the laws passed in September will lead the government to stop buying grain at minimum guaranteed prices and result in exploitation by corporations who will push down prices. Many activists and farming experts support their demand for a minimum guaranteed price for their crops.
The new rules will also eliminate agents who act as middlemen between the farmers and the government-regulated wholesale markets. Farmers say agents are a vital cog of the farm economy and their main line of credit, providing quick funds for fuel, fertilizers and even loans in case of family emergencies.
The laws have compounded existing resentment from farmers, who often complain of being ignored by the government in their push for better crop prices, additional loan waivers and irrigation systems to guarantee water during dry spells.
The government has argued the laws bring about necessary reform that will allow farmers to market their produce and boost production through private investment. But farmers say they were never consulted.
With nearly 60% of the Indian population depending on agriculture for their livelihoods, the growing farmer rebellion has rattled Modi's administration and allies. His leaders have scrambled to contain the protests, which are fast resembling last year's scenes when a contentious new citizenship law that discriminated against Muslims led to demonstrations that culminated in violence.
Those demonstrations were much bigger in scale, but the farmers' rumblings are growing fast and gaining widespread support of ordinary citizens who have started joining them in large numbers.
Modi and his allies have tried to allay farmers' fears about the new laws while dismissing their concerns. So.
